Tuition Charges

Payment is required for 1/2 term in advance. This reserves the childs place for that 1/2 term, giving them access to tuition, extra work on line and parent suport and update on pupil progress. Pupils starting part way through a block will pay for the proportion of the term that is left. Missed lessons must still be paid for and an alternative date provided if possible.

Teaching and Learning
A range of teaching and learning techniques are used including the use of interactive activities, which combine the excitement of computer games with the serious task of learning to read, spell or solve maths problems.

All primary lessons include stimulating starter activities using educational games that have been carefully selected to stimulate mental development.
All lessons are linked to the National Curriculum objectives and the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies.

At GCSE and A Level, study sessions will be personalised to cover the topics and meet the levels of individual students. We also offer practical advice on how to say motivated, homework and exam techniques.

Free Initial Assessment
All students will undertake an initial assessment that will identify academic strengths and weaknesses and determine which programme of study a student would most benefit from. Their preferred ‘learning styles’ will be established during this assessment and a report of all findings discussed with students and their parents.

Educational Assessments
Here at Excel Tuition we believe that the early identification of problems is the quickest route to improvement. We therefore carry out a more in-depth assessment for those parents who want an independent assessment of their child’s educational ability. These assessments will measure intelligence, reading, spelling writing and mathematics against children of a similar age. Our findings will be presented comprehensively in a confidential report.

Books and Equipment
Students will be supplied with all the stationary, worksheets and educational resources that are used in each study session. However, tutors may on occasions recommend that a particular textbook, DVD or educational game be purchased for additional work at home. These can be purchased directly from Excel Tuition Services if required.

Homework
Students will be set a homework task after every study session, which will be recorded in a students planner. Parents are asked to encourage their son or daughter to complete any set tasks to ensure they achieve their full potential.

Preparation for 11+ Entrance Exams
A recent article in the Times Educational Supplement showed that the average student applying for a place at a Grammar or Independent School began preparation by being tutored as soon as they entered Year 5. High competition for places and a desire to get children to the best Universities has led to parents making these decisions.

Guidance on Primary and Secondary School Admissions
Excel Tuition Services hold the latest copies of prospectuses and details of Open Days for all local Grammar and Independent Schools. These can be loaned to parents and informal advice given on the Primary Transfer and Secondary Schools Admission process.

Free Welcome Pack
On enrolment and payment of a 6 week block booking, students will receive a Welcome Pack which includes a range of age/ subject appropriate educational resources.

Drop Off and Collections
Parents are requested to deliver and pick up children promptly before and after the study sessions. Parents who wish to stay are allowed to park on the drive of Excel Tuition Services from where they will be able to see their child in the Study Room.
